I thought that I would post a bit about what I did in Seattle and what I enjoyed photographing while I was there! Seattle was great. I had never been to Washington or anywhere on the West Coast above California so I was excited to see what it was like. Surprisingly, the whole time I was there it was sunny and pretty warm. All of us Wyoming kids were really amazed at how green everything was and all these flowers were in bloom on the trees, it was gorgeous. We rode the light rail into town and went to the Space Needle the first day, it was amazing! The view is so spectacular and riding a train is so fun when you never get to. I enjoyed shooting stuff in the stations underground, there are so many lines and shapes. I went back up in the Space Needle in the evening to get some photos of the city while the sun was going down, which I am glad that I did, I got some great shots of the city from above with some nice light on it. Throughout the week we went to Pike Place Market multiple times because it's so cool, we could spend all day there. All the fruit they let you try is so good and the levels of shops were so interesting and cool. There is so much to photograph there. Tons of colorful fruit, flowers and signs for things. I spent alot of time shooting the little things in the market, just the atmosphere there is relaxing and nice. I spent a good amount of time downtown too! I really enjoy the city and all the things going on. I spent some time shooting the buildings and gorgeous streets that they have. We also went to the Waterfront and Pioneer Square which were both very cool. The Waterfront is nice because it's like you are by the ocean and there are tons of boats and birds. Pioneer Square has very lovely old buildings and it's nice to know about the history of it! Here are some photos that I got while I was there and if you want to see more they are all on my Flickr and in my Digital Photography Gallery right here on my website!

Wow! Picking a Photo of the Month for this month was tough! Of course I had to pick one of the shots I took in Seattle this past week. I took a hundred photos that I love so I hope you go see the rest I took! If you want to see more of my Seattle photos they will be up on my Digital Photography Gallery, on my Flickr and on my Tumblr. There is so many things to photograph in Seattle which is half of the reason that I went on the trip. I was on the go the whole time I was there and it was so fun! I took so may pictures and experienced the town, I had never been to Washington before and it was exciting. The whole time I was there it was sunny, everything was so green and lovely. We don't get alot of green in Wyoming so I enjoyed that alot. I took this photo at the top of the Space Needle right when the sun was going down. The photo to the right I took two days later while sitting at the park. I'll be making a separate post next week about my entire trip so stay tuned! Check out all my Seattle photos in my Digital Photography Gallery and tell me what photo you liked best! I'm not a huge fan of self portraits, only because I have a hard time photographing myself. Which is understandable because it's hard! Getting the focus in the right spot, timing everything perfectly, being able to pose how you really want, not being able to look through the lens. It is difficult but I do think that it's good to do and practice. I try to take some self portraits every once and awhile, since I'm not perfect at portraits. I don't think people usually try self portraits because they are difficult, although just like in drawing or painting or any other art, I think it's important to study a subject that you see often but don't really look at and try to see it in a new light! This is one that I took awhile back, just me in my room. For these photographs, I wanted to be emerging from the dark. I didn't want you to be able to tell what was the background and the black coming around me. I wanted my skin to be the brightest thing. I would definitely want to try out some more, I think it's interesting how I could possibly chop up my own form by doing this and potentially make it pretty interesting and abstract. So what do you think? This month has been a pretty good one, photography wise! My Photo of the Month for March is one I took for a project that we had in my Digital Photography class. It was called "Urban Landscape" and it either had to be black and white or split toned. Split toning is where you change the tint of the shadows and the highlights which can work really well depending on the photo. I think the small amount of yellow in this complimented the overall feel of the photo. I have been learning to make Van Dyke and Salt prints and I have to say, I really love alternative processes more than I ever thought I could. Each are processes that are old processes where you have to coat your own paper with chemicals and then expose the print in the sun. I think it's become my favorite medium after silver gelatin prints. Here is a photo of the first Van Dyke prints that I ever printed! Tell me what you think in the comments! Hello Everyone! Welcome to my first Photo of the Month! I will be posting one each month throughout the year so you can see what I am working on and doing on a monthly basis, then you can see what I'm photographing all the time!
This is a photo I took on the 27th at Casper College of the statue of the Thunderbird on campus. My digital photo class was instructed to go out and all take a photo we liked of it and we all compared how different they were! We all took very different photos of the statue. I thought that it would be a pretty boring thing to shoot but I ended up liking my photo very much. I've been learning alot more about photoshop lately and I love being able to apply it in the ways that I enjoy editing. Tell me what you think of this photo? Comment below! |
